You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life. -Churchill

Logan and Veronica Appreciation Week
Day 2: Favourite Parallels - character parallels.
For day 2 I’ve decided to compare some of Logan and Veronica’s character influences etc. and how the similarities and differences strengthen their relationship…
Grief - Logan and Veronica are united in their grief for Lilly. Their mutual relationship with Lilly/Duncan is how they originally became friends. The difference between how they responded to her death initially drove them apart (Veronica choosing to stand by Keith and Logan choosing to stand by the Kanes), but ultimately their loss of Lilly bonded them. The connection of them both experiencing losing Lilly to such tragedy at a young age and both being personally tied to her murder - Veronica through her investigation and Logan through his father’s guilt - cannot be replicated or matched in severity.
Abandonment - although Veronica has a wonderful relationship with Keith, her and Logan also share being abandoned/let down by somebody they love. Logan haunted by his mother’s suicide, and Veronica’s mother wasting a chance at rehabilitation and a chance to return home. Like Veronica said when helping Logan search for evidence Lynn was alive, "I know what it’s like."
Anger/Defensive Strengths - Logan and Veronica both have extremely strong fronts. Logan has irrationally reacted to conflict and thereby confusion, with force, while Veronica has learned to be on guard in most situations. Their similar facetiousness allows them to have great banter regardless of their relationship status.
Loyalty - I find the progression of Logan and Veronica’s loyalty throughout the series really interesting. Initially after Lilly’s death Veronica and Logan distrusted each other. After forming a new friendship and relationship, Logan fully gives his trust/loyalty to Veronica. This is contrasted by Veronica’s willingness to suspect Logan of Lilly’s murder. To be fair, their initial reasons for distrusting each other are vastly different. Logan had actually behaved in ways unworthy of Veronica’s trust. By season 2 Veronica is sure of Logan’s character and is loyal to him. So sure of Logan, nine years after seeing him last, Veronica leaves everything to prove him innocent of murder (again).
Vulnerability - not only does Logan and Veronica’s facetiousness amplifiy their banter, it also helps them understand each other’s true emotions better because of their similarities. I think the best thing about this is that it in no way diminishes their respect for one another’s strength. Veronica doesn’t call ‘façade’ when Logan cries and vice versa. They can both recognise the strength that exists in their vulnerability.
